The Grand Circle - 2005

A Journey around the Country

This is a mostly photo log of our trip around the country during August and September 2005. I kept a Blog at http://360.yahoo.com/carelsrb  with almost daily commentary as well as pictures, but here I will be editing the photos and adding commentary.
The pictures are all thumbnails so a click on them will produce a larger version.

This map shows our route beginning at the New Mexico Border and continuing on to Arizona.

The first picture of the trip taken at the first rest stop in West Virginia on I-68. Looking west the road is seen as climbs out of the valleys. Threatening clouds ahead as we drive through the  Oklahoma. They eventually gave us about 30 minutes of fairly heavy rain
On the left is our GPS which for the most part gave us good directions and on the right is a Sirius satellite radio for good music wherever we were. We arrive at the welcome center on    I-40 on  the 5th day of the trip. Very eastern New Mexico, western Texas panhandle looks like this. Taken at the Welcome center.
More shots from the welcome center looking out across the range land. Renata taking a break More range land with some hills showing in the distance
Later on we got these clouds beginning to form overhead The view off to the side of the road. In Albuquerque now and this is a view looking west from the 3rd floor of My Aunt's building, which is in the northeast corner of the city.
Heading north out of Albuquerque now on Rt. 550 for Farmington, NM. Most of this land is part of Indian Pueblo's Dry land with some grazing cattle. and a lot of wild flowers along the road.
The varied colored rock strata in the formation makes a striking view as we come over the crest of the hill. Still on Rt. 550. Here a Butte rises up in the distance. The yellow flowers are found all over the west along side the road. They are I think a variety of sunflower.
The view stretches out forever it seems and the clouds shine white against the blue sky. Shiprock
Located south of Rt.64 in North Western NM. in the Navajo Nation.

Here the road is descending down into a canyon as we head towards Kayenta, Arizona
