Following our visit to Grouse Mt. we returned to the hotel in Vancouver for the night. Tuesday morning we got on the bus for the trip to the train station Where we boarded the car on the Rocky Mountaineer that was to be our daytime home for the next 2 days.
The first day was to be from Vancouver to Kamloops a distance of 276 miles along the Fraser and Thompson Rivers. Here is the route:
The following pictures will be ones taken from the train (through the window or from the platform between cars) and sometimes they didn't come out as expected. Also while I am attempting to get them in order there is no guarantee that they are.
Left to Right:
1. Once out of the rail yards and the urban area we travel along the Frazer river.
2. Log rafts waiting for the saw mill.
3 & 4. Early views of the mountains to come.
5.An attempt to catch an eagle in flight ( click to full view and its the speck just above the trees right of
center).
1 & 2. Looking backward and forward along the train from the platform door.
3 & 4. The mountains get higher.
5. The problems from shooting through the train window as we move. (blurred pictures).
1 & 2. Another problem was getting ready to shoot and having a bunch of trees
come into the frame.
2, 3 & 4. Various shots of the mountains , river and valley walls.
5. Mile 7.0 on the map, Hells Gate
Air Tram at the narrowest point on the Frazer River
1, 2 & 3. More shots of Hells Gate. On the right of the river below the
red pipe crossing, what looks like a road (white) is actually the top of a fish
ladder.
4 & 5. Mile 103.7
Cisco Crossings.
This 812 foot long bridge is the largest single span bridge on the CN line, with
a 425 foot arch.
