Monday, we started home taking I90 east out of Seattle and then switched to I82 at Ellensburg to head southeast to Yakima and Richland where we picked up Rt. 124 and then Rt. 12 which we followed all the way to Lolo Montana. The route followed the Lewis & Clark Trail and followed several rivers including the Clearwater as we climbed into the mountains. The following pictures are from this portion of the trip.
Looking north from I90, looking southwest from I82 just north of Yakima, looking
north from I82 south east of Yakima, fields and hills along Rt. 124.
We stayed over night in Missoula Montana and head east on I90 to outside Bozeman
where took Rt. 191 south along the
Gallatin river towards Yellowstone.
Driving
along the river valley as we neared Yellowstone we saw lots of vegetation just
beginning to show spring colors. We stopped in West Yellowstone for a
break at MacDonald's before entering the park. (Not your usual looking one is
it?)
At the park entrance we learned that we could not go all the way through the park the way we had hoped, but had to go around instead. We took Rt. 20 south and then Rt. 33 (were we could see the western side of the Grand Tetons ) and then Rt. 22 into Jackson Hole. The last part of this was quite a drive narrow road and steep grades as we crossed over the mountains.
after Jackson Hole, it was south on Rt. 191 to Rock Springs where we picked up I80 to Cheyenne. South from there on I25 to Denver and then east on I70. These last pictures were taken on Rt. 191 as we left the Rockies behind.
And that's it for the pictures. Hope you enjoyed them. I had fun putting this together.
